Driving While Distracted?

This mailbox is a trooper and a world traveler!

I darted out of my front door this morning to something I witnessed out of the front window of my home. I didn’t have time to think. My body was in full motion as I ran to the car that was flipped over on its side right in front of my drive way. I examined the car to make sure no fuel was leaking, and saw the woman sitting in her seat. She was screaming, “Get me out of here! Hurry, get me out of here!” The wind shield was severely damaged, and my first thought was to punch my way through, but the wipers were on. I began to push the car to try to flip it over. Other people came to help me, as well as, my two boys! While we were trying to flip it over, the lady’s foot was pressing against the gas pedal due to her trying to climb out. Everyone was shouting, “Get your foot off the gas!” It was a crazy scene! Thankfully, we got the car right side up, and the woman got out of the car without a scratch! All I could say to her was, “You’re Alive!”

I was in the middle of teaching my children when I happened to look out the window. I saw this car total our mail box, hit the concrete to our drain hole, and flip over on its side. There are a lot of accidents in front of our house. We live on a busy street with a lot of impatient, distracted drivers. My family and I have witnessed some horrific accidents! So, in order for this woman to have caused this one person accident, she had to be distracted!

In late April, my sister and her husband were involved in an accident. In June, my brother-in-law passed away due to that accident. I am certain that the person who caused that accident was distracted while driving. There are children without their father now, because some person decided that their device was more important than the lives of others! I personally witnessed a hit and run as I was going to work. A man was walking across the street when someone failed to stop at the red light. He hit him and kept going.

People it is important that you realize that your phone (radio, etc.) isn’t that important! It can wait for you to pick up the pacifier, handle that spilled coffee, answer that text, choose a song, call someone, and/or look at your social media. It is not worth it! Get off your phone when you are driving (and pushing a cart in a store, or even walking)! I love you all! GBY and have a good one!
